Named after the first ship to sail the San Francisco bay, San Carlos developed mostly under the leadership of Frederick Drake, now known to residents as the “Father of San Carlos.” Mr. Drake brought urbanization to a city that was previously used mostly as an outpost for farming and textile industries. The city motto, “City of Good Living,” adopted in its early history, remains true of the place to this day. With a bustling downtown, charming neighborhoods, well-groomed parks, and an industrial sector east of the railroad tracks, San Carlos has emerged as a truly cosmopolitan city that enjoys the great climate of the San Francisco Peninsula.
